President Trump has finally had it with the European Union’s anti-American nonsense, and he’s done playing nice. Now it’s America First—no more BS.
On Friday, President Trump issued a direct statement on Truth Social slamming the EU’s manipulative trade practices:
“The European Union, which was formed for the primary purpose of taking advantage of the United States on trade, has been very difficult to deal with. Their powerful trade barriers, fat taxes, ridiculous corporate penalties, non-monetary trade barriers, monetary manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against American companies and more have led to a trade deficit with the US of more than $250 billion a year — a number which is totally unacceptable. Our discussions with them are going nowhere. Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% tariff on the European Union starting on June 1st, 2025. There is no tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
President Trump has had it with the EU’s entitled attitude. For years, they’ve taken the U.S. to the cleaners in trade negotiations, assuming we’d just accept it. But those days are over. The new 50% tariff, set to begin June 1st, is meant to send a message: if you want access to the American market, stop playing dirty — or build your products here.
This isn’t just about trade. It’s about sovereignty. It’s about American jobs, economic independence, and putting our country first. Trump is offering a simple incentive — manufacture in the U.S. and skip the tariffs. It’s that straightforward.
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELLet’s not forget—back in April, President Trump already gave the EU a 90-day reprieve when he rolled out the Liberation Day tariffs. He gave them time to get serious, to come to the table and work toward a fair deal. But we’re well past the halfway mark of that grace period, and the EU has made no real effort to fix the imbalance.
In fact, Trump laid it out again yesterday:
“They’ve treated us very badly over the years. It was formed in order to hurt the United States, in order to take advantage of the United States. And they’ve done that. We have a big deficit with them. They sell millions and millions of cars — Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, and many others. And we were restricted from selling cars into the European Union. I just said it’s time that we play the game the way I know how to play it. They’ve taken advantage of other people representing this country and they’re not going to do that any longer.”
WATCH:
He’s right. For over 30 years, the EU has existed primarily to challenge U.S. economic power. They banded together to form a mega-bureaucracy — 27 countries, over 450 million people — and yet, even with 100 million more citizens than the U.S., their collective GDP is 50% less than ours. That’s not just embarrassing; it’s pathetic.
And still, they walk into trade talks acting like they hold all the cards.
Ironically, that bloated bureaucracy might be their downfall. As one official noted this week, the EU suffers from a “collective action problem.” Twenty-seven countries are supposedly represented by one central body in Brussels, but many of those nations don’t even know what’s being negotiated in their name. So not only is the EU arrogant, it’s dysfunctional.
This is why Trump’s 50% tariff matters. It’s not just a punishment — it’s a wake-up call. It’s a demand that the EU stop acting like a privileged cartel and start acting like responsible global partners. It’s about encouraging them to confront their own inefficiencies. And it’s about forcing them to understand that America is no longer playing by their rules.
Regardless of what Brussels decides to do, one thing is clear: the United States, under President Trump, will continue putting America first.
