Let’s talk about what actually went down this week, because it matters. A federal appeals court put a hold on the $83 million that President Trump was supposed to pay E. Jean Carroll in her defamation lawsuit. The pause is in place while the nation’s highest court decides whether to get involved.
Carroll, who argues that Trump’s appeals have no legal merit, did not oppose the delay as long as the president added another $7.5 million to his bond to cover the extra interest he could owe if he loses the appeal.
Trump asked for the hold, and the court said yes and granted Carroll her wish by requiring Trump to post his bond at $7.5 million. Carroll’s side went along with it, as long as that condition was honored.
Now here is the backstory worth knowing. Back in 2019, Carroll came forward saying Trump sexually assaulted her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman sometime during the mid-1990s. After Trump publicly pushed back on those allegations, first from the White House and then after he left, she took him to court over those denials. Worth noting is that those were two completely separate legal actions.
Juries ruled in Carroll’s favor in both of those cases, awarding her damages each time. Trump has not accepted those outcomes and is fighting them in court.
Trump is now taking his case to the Supreme Court after the full Second Circuit Court of Appeals rejected his claims of presidential immunity, along with several other attempts to avoid paying the massive judgment late last month.

Alina Habba, Trump’s lawyer from that case, trashed the judge after the trial. Her main argument has been that the allegedly hand-picked judge did not allow her to bring any evidence forward for a pro-per defense.
Most people are probably not aware of this press meeting and have no idea what happened in that courtroom.
