So here’s something you don’t hear every day. Under President Donald Trump’s federal crime crackdown, arrests in Washington, DC, have just risen above 1,000. At the same time, the city has gone 12 straight days without a homicide. That is unheard of in the nation’s capital. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro dropped the news on Monday, and she was not holding back. Donald Trump, in essence, is responsible for 12 American lives being saved, according to statistics.
On Sunday alone, authorities locked up 86 people and took 10 illegal guns off the street. That brings the totals to 1,007 arrests and 111 guns seized.
“What does that mean? They can’t be used to shoot people, to kill people,” Pirro said Monday on “Fox & Friends.” She added, “And on top of all of that, we’ve got a government now where the people in DC are feeling safer. They know that there is a president who’s looking to protect them.”
Pirro credited Trump for sending in federal help to clean up the city.
“DC was one of the most violent cities in the world, but for President Trump coming in and bringing in our federal partners… we’ve got a unified force of people and law enforcement who were going into the crime-ridden areas and making a difference,” she said.
She didn’t stop there. “And I’ll tell you why it’s making a difference. Today is the 12th day without a homicide in Washington, DC So far this year, we’ve had 101 homicides. But for the last 12 days, nothing. Yep. Policing works.”
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNELEven FBI Director Kash Patel jumped in. He said 26 of Sunday’s arrests came from FBI operations, which also included five drug seizures. His response online was simple:
“Keep getting after it,” Patel posted on X.
But of course, not everyone is impressed. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson — a Democrat, naturally — tried to downplay the results. He claimed only nine arrests were connected to Trump’s crackdown. He even promised to fight any attempt to bring the same program to Chicago, calling it “uncoordinated, uncalled-for and unsound.”
Pirro fired right back. She said the Washington results speak for themselves, and criminals are starting to think twice.
“The good news is that they’re afraid to commit crimes when you have an increased law enforcement people in the community, especially the crime-ridden community, they’re saying thank you,” Pirro said. “They’re afraid to commit crimes because they know that being accountable – Johnson ought to hope that the president comes there to clean up the mess in Chicago.”
Here’s the reality. Chicago has led the nation in homicides for 13 years straight. The city logged 573 killings in 2024 alone, according to its own data. And the mayor wants to pretend everything is fine.
Trump is issuing executive orders that strike directly at the core of the crime crisis. On Monday, he ordered DC police to charge suspects with federal crimes and hold them in federal custody, making it impossible for cashless bail to kick them back onto the streets. He signed another order threatening to yank federal money from any city that insists on cashless bail.
The National Guard has now been cleared to carry firearms on patrol in Washington. Yes, soldiers with rifles in the streets of the capital. That’s how serious this effort has become.
Trump called in the Guard earlier this month. Since then, they’ve been rounding up gang members, robbery suspects, and immigrants who are in violation. The operation itself started quietly on Aug. 7 when Trump launched the “Making DC Safe and Beautiful” task force by executive order.
Then came the escalation. On Aug. 11, Trump did something no president had ever done before. He seized temporary federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department under emergency powers in the Home Rule Act. That had never happened in U.S. history.
Now you’ve got the National Guard, FBI, U.S. Marshals, ATF, DEA, Capitol Police, and even the Park Police working shoulder to shoulder with local officers. It’s a massive show of force. And for now, it looks like it’s working.
