The UN Security Council debated Russia’s request for an investigation into the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines. And the Russians are not happy. They say that the United States is not interested in finding out who destroyed the pipelines from Russia to Germany. They anticipate the United States to veto any investigation, which is convincing them that Biden is lying. They do have one excellent point.
No one but the US gained by the bombing of the pipelines and a couple of staffers at the State Department vowed to shut down the Nord Stream if Russia invaded Ukraine. Those are compelling thoughts. They do not prove the US is guilty, but if Biden didn’t order the bombing, why would he want to close the investigation?
Biden said in Warsaw:
“Putin thought he could use energy as a weapon. But no. We mobilized and reduced our dependence on Russian energy resources.”
Speaking at a press conference with German chancellor Olaf Scholz Feb. 7, 2022, Biden said, if Russia invaded Ukraine, “there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2”. Pressed to explain how, Biden doubled down: “We will – I promise you – we will be able to do it.”
On January 27, 2022, State Department Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said:
VISIT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL‘With regard to Nord Stream 2, we continue to have very strong and clear conversations with our German allies, and I want to be clear with you today. If Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another, Nord Stream 2 will not move forward…. we’ve had extensive consultations at every level with our German allies. I’m not going to get into the specifics here today, but we will work with Germany to ensure that the pipeline does not move forward.’
On January 26, 2022 US State Department spokesperson Ned Price told NPR:
“I want to be very clear: if Russia invades Ukraine one way or another, Nord Stream 2 will not move forward. I’m not going to get into the specifics. We will work with Germany to ensure it does not move forward.”
Notice how closely Nuland’s statement and Price’s statements are. Almost identical and Joe Biden said basically the same thing twice. What bothers me the most is that if Biden and the US had nothing to do with the bombing, why are they against an investigation? You liberals that monitor this site, can you gave me a good reason other than a cover-up to oppose an investigation?
After the first round of discussions at the UN Security Council, Russian UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya said he has “the impression Western experts are not interested in an unbiased international investigation. This, of course, only aggravates our suspicions.” The United States has veto power in the Security Council and will presumably shoot down Russia’s resolution asking for an independent Nord Stream investigation.
“We are not here to set up a trial in the Security Council”, Nebenzya said. He said Moscow was presenting a request for an independent investigation in light of doubts about the integrity and transparency of Denmark, Germany and Sweden in their ongoing inquiries. Nebenzya said the UN Secretary-General António Guterres “is someone we trust” to lead an investigation into the Nord Stream attack.
“We have strong reasons to doubt the effectiveness, transparency, and impartiality of investigations that are being carried out under some national jurisdictions,” Nebenzya said Tuesday. “We do not see our partners being eager to cooperate.”
