Merrick Garland isn’t just an Attorney General; he’s a walking, talking example of how power can be wielded like a cudgel for political agendas. If there’s a handbook on turning government institutions into partisan battering rams, Garland’s got it bookmarked, highlighted, and dog-eared. His Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI are practically running a masterclass on political weaponization that would leave even Soviet bureaucrats in awe. And if you’ve been paying attention, you know his game isn’t just partisan—it’s downright un-American.
Case in point: Garland’s ongoing battle to release special prosecutor Jack Smith’s final report. Of course, this all hit a snag when Judge Aileen Cannon issued a temporary injunction blocking its release.
Let’s break it down:
On Tuesday, Judge Cannon temporarily blocked Jack Smith’s report on his relentless “lawfare” investigation into President Trump. This is the same investigation that’s been less about justice and more about scoring political points. Garland had previously announced he’d release the report, but Cannon’s injunction has put the brakes on that—for now.
Here’s the gist of the injunction: It’s in place until three days after a federal appeals court issues a ruling on a related motion involving Trump’s co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira. Their lawyers argued that the report should be blocked based on Cannon’s earlier ruling that Smith’s appointment as special counsel was unconstitutional.
For now, Garland is barred from doing anything with Jack Smith’s report—”or any drafts of such Report outside the Department of Justice, or (b) otherwise releasing, distributing, conveying, or sharing with anyone outside the Department of Justice any information or conclusions in the Final Report or in drafts thereof.”

Judge Cannon, a Trump appointee, previously dismissed charges against Trump by siding with the argument that Smith’s appointment was, indeed, unconstitutional. Why? Smith wasn’t approved by the Senate—a minor detail Garland apparently decided to shrug off. And now Garland, knowing all this, wants to spread the “work product” of what some see as a political hitman. Oh, and let’s not forget, both Garland and Smith probably have Biden pardons waiting in their back pockets. Convenient, right?
This whole action by Garland and Smith is political. Anything to tarnish Trump and his agenda. Both of their behaviors are quite astonishing.
The Justice Department is, predictably, pushing back. On Wednesday, they argued there’s “neither any need nor legal basis for an injunction” because Garland only plans to release volume one of the report—conveniently, the part focused on Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. This, they claim, is all in the name of “public interest” and keeping Congress informed.
Here’s something you will never hear on CNN:
In 2015, Smith was appointed First Assistant U.S. Attorney of Nashville. In 2017, the US Attorney left, and what usually happens is that the top assistant is appointed to become his successor. But the president chose someone else for that position, knowing that Jack Smith had a career of lying, cheating, and violating many defendant’s due process rights and, at one point, had a conviction against former Republican governor of Virginia, Robert McDonnell, overturned by the US Supreme Court 9-0. You can’t get those twelve individuals to agree on what’s for lunch.
The president who chose someone else was Donald Trump. Now you know why this dishonest, unscrupulous, dirty prosecutor has it out for Trump. He’s holding a grudge, and you just know that’s why Garland chose him.
So, what did Smith do? He resigned his position in protest. And now, years later, he’s back with a vengeance, gunning for the very man who once passed him over. Coincidence? Sure. And I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
