Gun control activist David Hogg slammed New Mexico Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s unconstitutional ban on carrying firearms in public in Bernalillo County, which covers the city of Albuquerque, in a post on X (Twitter).
Grisham issued the order on Friday, and it went into force on Saturday, September 9. The restriction applies to open-carry or concealed-carry handguns carried in public, and it also prohibits concealed-carry permit holders from carrying their pistols for self-defense.
Hogg responded to the ruling with an X post saying, “I support gun safety but there is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.”

To show how ignorant Governor Grisham is on gun laws, here she is telling someone off-camera that a young person can legally own an automatic weapon. She just misused the power of her office to violate American citizens’ Second Amendment constitutional rights, and she doesn’t know that automatic weapons have been banned in the US since the 1930s.

The National Association for Gun Rights has already filed a lawsuit against Grisham’s ruling.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman stated on Saturday that he will not enforce Grisham’s concealed carry prohibition.
“As an officer of the court, I cannot and will not enforce something that is clearly unconstitutional.”
“This office will continue to focus on criminals of any age who use guns in the commission of a crime,” he stressed.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen put out a statement on Friday saying that he will not enforce the unconstitutional order either.
Here’s part of what Sheriff Allen tweeted out:
Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an emergency order temporarily suspending open and concealed carry laws in Albuquerque and throughout Bernalillo County for the next 30 days. This move has been positioned as a response to the alarming and tragic rise in gun violence, particularly the heart-wrenching death of an 11-year-old boy this past week.
First and foremost, every lost life is a tragedy, and the well-being of our community is of paramount concern to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. We share in the collective grief and urgency to address this issue.
However, as the elected Sheriff, I have reservations regarding this order. While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our Constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold. I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.
I was elected to represent and safeguard all constituents and to ensure the balance between our rights and public safety is maintained. That means we must critically evaluate any proposed solution to the deeply rooted issue of gun violence, ensuring we both protect our community and uphold the values that define us as a nation.

It took a rogue lunatic progressive governor to make David Hogg take a reasonable stand about gun rights. That is nothing short of a miracle.
New Mexico voters, you need to do better.
