Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C., home of Representative Ilhan Omar. Almost overnight, a stack of old questions came roaring back, covering everything from her immigration history and citizenship to her financial disclosures and the people in her family. These are allegations and reported investigations, and a search warrant isn’t a conviction. But the questions are real, and they aren’t going away.
Investigators are reportedly looking at whether Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Muhammad, put false information on immigration paperwork. Part of the inquiry is said to involve her birth date. Another part concerns whether her father ever mentioned his past military service when he applied for legal status in this country. He was a colonel in the military run by the communist regime. The people overthrew that regime, and that’s why Omar had to flee. He didn’t let that cat out of the bag when he came here because he probably knew his entry would be denied.
So How Old Is She, Exactly?
Here’s where it gets interesting. The New York Post reported that some public records and media profiles once listed Omar’s birth year as 1981. Then in 2019, her congressional staff asked the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library to switch it to 1982. The timing? According to the Post, that request came right after a political opponent put out a video questioning her age.
Why would a single year matter so much? Because of how Omar says she became a citizen. She has said she became an American through her father while she was still a minor. Her father reportedly became a citizen in 2000. If she was born in 1981, she might have been 18 at that point. A 1982 birth date makes her 17, which happens to be exactly what she’d need.
A changed year on a library record doesn’t settle the matter by itself. But it does raise an obvious question. Why did her office feel the need to change it, and why then? I think we all know why.

In 2023, AJ Kern, who once ran against Omar, asked for the naturalization records of Omar’s late father. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services searched the information she gave them, including different spellings of his name. The agency came back saying it found “no matching index reference.”
That’s a remarkable answer. The agency did leave the door open to another search if Kern brought new or different information, so the matter isn’t closed. But if the record exists, where is it?
It matters because Omar could only have gotten citizenship through her father if two things were true. She would have needed to be under 18, and he would have needed to be naturalized already. The records hold the answer.
What About Her Father’s Past?
There’s also the allegation that Omar’s father served in Somalia’s military under the old regime and never disclosed it when he applied for asylum. If that’s true, it could have affected whether he qualified for asylum at all. And if his status was compromised, what does that mean for his daughter’s, especially since the story they gave was that Ilhan was a minor child of the man seeking asylum?
A Subpoena and a Very Famous Fraud Case
Then there’s Omar’s sister, Sara Noor. She reportedly got a grand jury subpoena. Attention has also turned to her consulting firm, Grit Partners, and its business ties to people linked to the Feeding Our Future fraud case in Minnesota, one of the biggest pandemic fraud schemes in the country.
Noor hasn’t been accused of a crime, and a subpoena can simply be a demand for testimony or documents. Still, prosecutors don’t send grand jury subpoenas to random people.
Let’s Talk About the Money
Omar’s financial disclosures are their own story. One filing reportedly showed a big jump in the value of businesses tied to Omar and her husband. A revised filing came later and put her net worth far lower.
Allegedly, from a range of $6 million to $30 million down to a range of $18,004 to $95,000. That’s some Olympic-style stretching going on there.
Omar reportedly blamed the gap on an accounting error. An accounting error! Who among us hasn’t misplaced a few hundred thousand or millions of dollars?
It seems that accounting errors are always the answer whenever a Democrat finds themself in financial hot water.
Two businesses were said to be behind those earlier numbers: a winery and a consulting firm. The winery reportedly shut its doors not long after the revised disclosure came out. Convenient timing, wouldn’t you say?
The Office of Congressional Conduct reportedly advised against sending the matter to the House ethics committee. The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, on the other hand, was said to be looking into her financial disclosures. Apparently somebody still has questions.
What All of This Proves, and What It Doesn’t
So where does that leave us? A handful of questions sit on the table, and records and investigators can answer every one of them. What is Omar’s actual birth date? What do her father’s immigration and naturalization files say? Was everything that had to be disclosed actually disclosed? And how did anyone come up with the numbers in her financial filings? How much money and effort is the Democratic Party putting into saving Ilhan?
None of this is a guilty verdict yet. Removal from Congress or deportation would require proof and a legal process. But these are fair questions about a sitting member of Congress, and the public deserves answers.
