Strangely, Democrat Charlie Crist Tried To Claim Ron DeSantis Is A ‘Lockdown’ Governor During Florida Gubernatorial Debate

During the first and only debate between the two candidates on Monday night, Democrat Representative Charlie Crist (D-FL) strangely claimed that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is a lockdown governor.

Early on in the discussion, DeSantis made it obvious that Crist is a staunch supporter of President Joe Biden, consistently voting with him “to give us this inflation to drive up the costs of everything that we’re doing.”

“And the fact of the matter is over the last two years, we’ve now had record inflation all across this country at 40-year highs,” he said, explaining that Crist “supports Biden’s energy policies, which has made gas and utilities more expensive.”

DeSantis also made the point that if Crist had his way, people wouldn’t be moving to Florida, noting that the Democrat “sent me a letter in July of 2020 saying you need to shut down the state of Florida.”

“He said you need to force people to shelter in their own homes. That would have destroyed the state of Florida,” he claimed, harming millions of kids as Crist would have prevented them from attending school.

“I kept this state open. And I kept this state free, and we now have the biggest budget surplus in the history of Florida. We have a 2.5 percent unemployment, lowest on record, and we just did the biggest tax cut in Florida,” he added. 

Then, in an odd attempt to characterize DeSantis as a lockdown governor, Crist claimed that DeSantis was the first governor to order the state of Florida to be shut down during the beginning of the COVID pandemic, something that had never before happened to the entire county. Though blue states continued to be subject to mandates and restrictions for months on end, DeSantis was among the first to reopen the state.

“Ron, that’s rich. You’re the only governor in the history of Florida that has ever shut down our schools. You’re the only governor in the history of Florida that shut down our businesses. I never did that as governor,” Crist stated, omitting to point out that he was not governor during a global pandemic when there was uncertainty about everything.

Before going on to defend lockdowns, Crist added, “You’re the one who’s the shutdown guy,” saying that we need someone who will “listen to science.” Noteworthy candidate Crist previously declared on the campaign trail that he would impose a mask mandate if so-called experts demanded it.

I think the overwhelming majority of Americans are sick and tired of hearing about the “science” from leftists that they never follow, anyway. DeSantis should win easily over this grifter because he has been an excellent governor for the Sunshine State.
